VOLO End of Life Notice
Overview
The Volo product and associated cloud service are planned to be withdrawn at the end of October 2027 (anticipated end-of-service date).
The service will continue to operate normally until the end-of-service date, and customers should continue using it as they do today.
Why is this happening?
The Volo service is reaching the end of its supported lifecycle.
The regulatory and commercial environment for connected digital services continues to evolve. Maintaining this longstanding platform in line with anticipated future expectations would require significant structural investment, and continued operation beyond this point has been determined not to be commercially sustainable.
What does this mean?
Up until the end-of-service date:
✅ Existing VOLO systems will continue to operate as normal.
✅ The VOLO website and cloud services will remain available.
After the end-of-service date, VOLO systems will revert to offline functionality, only:
❌ All cloud services will be unavailable - the https://my.volo-access.com will be shut down.
❌ No configuration changes can be made to controllers (granting/revoking access, changing schedules, etc.).
❌ No events/logs will be stored or accessible.
❌ Some erratic behaviour may be seen if continuing to operate controllers after the cloud services have been terminated.
Customers should begin planning for the migration of their access control systems to take place before the end-of-service date.
Frequently Asked Questions
Is the service stopping immediately?
No - the anticipated end-of-service date is the 31st of October 2027. The system will remain fully functional until the end-of-service date.
Can I continue installing new systems?
The VOLO system (controllers and web services) will continue to work as normal until the end-of-service date. You can install new systems during this time, but their lifespan will be very limited.
Installers
It is essential that your customers/end users are fully informed of the expected lifespan of the VOLO product before selling any VOLO hardware or subscriptions.
Customers & End Users
All VOLO systems (irrespective of their installation date) will cease to operate fully on the end-of-service date. Installing new systems may be an appropriate interim step while seeking an alternative system, but it is not a long-term solution.
Will support continue?
Active development of the VOLO system has ended. KMC will continue to offer product support until the end-of-service date.
Why is the product being withdrawn?
After more than a decade, we have had to take the difficult commercial decision to withdraw the product.
The regulatory and commercial environment for connected digital services continues to evolve. Maintaining this longstanding platform in line with anticipated future expectations would require significant structural investment, and continued operation beyond this point has been determined not to be commercially sustainable.
What happens after the end-of-service date?
⚠️ All access to the VOLO website/web services will be revoked.
⚠️ All data will be erased from the cloud.
⚠️ VOLO controllers will lose much of their functionality, and their behaviour may become erratic once the cloud
services are terminated.
caution
We strongly recommend that Customers find and install an alternative solution in advance of the end-of-service date.
Can you recommend an alternative solution?
Yes, KMC can recommend alternative solutions that offer similar capabilities.
