Connecting & Updating Controllers

Connecting the Master Controller

Wire the components to the VOLO Master Controller as shown in the Wiring Diagram.

Power up the unit and wait for the OK LED heartbeat. If there is a fault with the installation or the unit then the diagnostic LEDs may well show the fault type, enabling you to report or rectify the problem before proceeding.

To confirm relay activation for the locking hardware, press the exit button or in the absence of an exit button, place a test jumper between the 0v and exit terminals. Once the exit button is pressed or the jumper temporarily placed, the lock should release.

When using Paxton readers, the reader's default indication has all the LEDs on. Access granted is denoted with a single flashing Green LED. Access Denied is a single flashing Red LED. The green reader LED should flash when the exit button is pressed.

Firmware Update

It is important to update the firmware to the latest available version before proceeding further.

The VOLO website displays the number of Controllers requiring a firmware update on the Installer Dashboard page.

On the installer dashboard under “Actionable items” you will find the section “non-urgent items requiring action” which shows if any of your Controllers are running out of date firmware. Click on the ‘Out of date Controllers’ heading.

The next page will list all out of date Controllers and where they are. You will have the option to click an "Update to: x.x.x" button should you wish to update that Controller to the latest version of firmware.

caution

Updating controllers over the air can take some time and, once complete, will erase all operational data save on the controller. Once complete, the controller will automatically reinstate and download the settings applied to it before the update.

After the data has been erased and during the period of time required to download the settings after the update, the controller will not be fully operational.

Please be sure to take appropriate measures to minimise disruption on the site where the controller is located and to keep users safe while the update is in progress.
